November beauty favourites

IMG_5649OMG, can you believe it’s nearly Christmas! who’s excited? Christmas is cancelled for me because I am going on holiday next week and I cannot wait. Since November is now behind us I thought I would do a cheeky post of my favourite beauty buys from last month. I am one of those girls that’s easily swayed by an advert. If the advert says that by using this cream I am going to be fresh-faced, have soft skin and no spots then I am the first person to run out and buy it. I even get pulled into those unrealistic results such as ‘if you buy this shampoo then your hair will grow overnight, you will have endless curls, a new wardrobe full of clothes, find £1,000 on the floor and we will even chuck in a boyfriend’. Yeah I’m that naive, I believe everything.

Anyway here are a few of my favourite things from November;

  • Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation What an absolute dream. I was in Selfridges on the hunt for a new foundation and it was as if the make-up gods came down and pointed to the Charlotte Tilbury counter. If you have oily skin like me then this is perfect as it is a Matt finish. It is also full coverage and stays on all day. I’ve been using this as my ‘going-out out’ foundation as opposed to everyday use. I have olive skin and it was quite easy to find the right match.

  • Honey & Co Face mask Since it is now Antarctica outside my skin is in the horrors. My skin is crying out for some sun and in need of some tender loving care. I try to do a face mask every two weeks. I find that it soothes my skin and gives me a more vibrant look. I love the fact that the products are all natural and it doesn’t  leave your face looking red and puffy as most face masks do.

  • ‘Show’ Dry Shampoo– If you are as lazy as I am then you will agree that washing your hair is an absolute chore, especially when you have a lion mane for hair. Dry shampoo is a literal life saver and makes your hair feel and smell as if you have just washed it.

  • Anastasia Beverly hills eyebrow wiz in Granite What were my poor eyebrows doing before this? Not only does this product help to define the shape but it also stays on all day. Go out and get it now.

Eyebrow pencil that will change your life

  • Sanctuary Spa wet skin moisture Miracle Body Lotion I still haven’t found my go to body lotion as I feel that after a few months my body gets used to the cream and it ends up making my skin dry.  I have only been using this for a few weeks but I am loving it at the moment. The cream dries as soon as your rub it in and the smell is to die for.

  • Too faced ‘you light up my life’ highlighter- We all want that show-stopping, glistening glow and this highlighter will honestly light up your life. I can’t leave the house without it. All you need is a fan brush and a little bit of product and you are on your way to having highlighter brighter than your ex boyfriend’s future.

10 Ways to be healthier

This post is being written selfishly for me as I am sick with the flu again! My immune system is dire and as soon as someone sneezes I know it’s game over. As we are slowly making our way from autumn into winter. I thought it would be a good idea to write a blog post that will hopefully give us all a little push to protect our bodies, and who doesn’t want to be a little bit healthier? Anyway enough of me rambling on, let’s begin.

  1.  Get enough sleep! Studies state that if you are aged between 18-64 years the recommended sleep should be between 7-9 hours. Well you don’t have to tell me twice, I like to think of myself as the modern sleeping beauty. By going to bed early and having a full night’s rest this will allow your body to recuperate and you will be ready for the day ahead.
  2. Breakfast I must admit I do not eat breakfast…yet. It is a known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So head over to local food shop and stack up on those cereals.

3. Herbal tea I don’t really know how I feel about herbal tea, I have a love hate relationship with it. But the benefits of drinking herbal tea are meant to be amazing. By drinking herbal tea you will supposedly shed of the pounds, fight off the flu and have a good night sleep.

4. Exercise It is recommended that you exercise everyday for 20-30 mins. I am going to be realistic with this one because there is nothing I love more than getting into bed and watching Netflix. Let’s say 4 times a week.

5. Vitamins I have tried to take vitamins in the past but I always forget to take them or the placebo effect would get me and I would start feeling weird (maybe I am a bit of a drama queen). I’ve decided to try again with some vitamins called Repair and Revitalise. They are meant to help you feel good everyday with beautiful hair, skin and nails. I am going to give them a go and see how they work. They will be linked on my Instagram if you want to try them.

6. Fruit and Veg 5 a day people, you know the drill.

7. Meditate  I am really really excited about this one. I have never meditated before but I plan to meditate for 10 minutes every night before I go to bed. The idea is to unwind, shut down your brain and relax. I have attached a meditation for beginners guide for those that want to join in.

8. Drink water the recommended amount of water to drink per day is 2L. If you buy a bottle at the beginning of every day you will be able to finish it in no time.

9. Balanced diet I AM NOT a nutritionist because I love Mac Donald’s, so I can’t really advise on this. But the plan is not to eat junk food and eat carbs and fat in moderation. I plan to eat lots of protein, meat and brown rice.

10. Go on holiday  Yes Yes Yes No matter what job you do or how hard you work, everyone deserves a holiday. Holidays give you some relaxation time. So by the time you come back you are more motivated than ever.

what’s the lesson you live by?

This is a pretty good question because as a 25-year-old woman I would say that I most definitely haven’t got my life together just yet. I am known for drinking way too many cocktails and moaning that I should have won the lottery by now. However, last year February I had to learn the hardest lesson of all; family is everything. Don’t get me wrong, I always knew family was important but as a teen/young woman you take them for granted.

My 18-year-old brother died suddenly in February 2016 and I must admit I still don’t believe it to this day. I never thought in a million years that I would need to worry about my little brother dying. It’s one of those things you hear about but you think it will never happen to you. You hit a state of shock, a brick wall. For the first six months, I walked around like a zombie. I became so angry that the world just carried on living whilst my entire world had collapsed. Dealing with grief and trying to offer support to my mum and sister is incredibly difficult. This tragedy will haunt us forever and every day I am smacked in the face with different emotions. The loss of someone is never easy and the pain DOES NOT go away.

The only lesson I can learn from this is to treasure everyone and everything because you never know when you will have your last moment with them. I know life gets in the way and mundane things such as work, arguments etc stops us from remembering what is important, but we must snap out of it. Doing well for yourself, getting that promotion, buying your dream car and living the life of luxury will mean nothing if you don’t have your loved ones around you. Without making this post too depressing, I want to use my story as a reminder for us all to be so grateful for all the good things in life. Say I love you every day, spend more time with your family and always do the things that make you happy.

I had to learn the hard way that is life is so tough, we will all have good and bad days. There will be times when you want to give up but don’t! life is so precious so embrace it and have as much fun as possible. This experience has shaped me into a completely different person. I am grateful, fearless and want to make my brother very proud. There will be a time when everyone will go through the pain of losing someone they love but just know you are not alone. Life is short and we only get one chance at it so if you are currently unhappy with your current situation, shake up your entire life. Go after your dream job, get a horse, make a family or move to Hawaii. Do all the things that scare you as this will make life worthwhile. One last thing before I go, always be grateful and never take anyone or anything for granted.

 

My do’s and don’t for the week;

  • DO go on a major shopping spree on payday and live off beans on toast for the rest of the month.
  • DON’T stalk your ex on Instagram, it will ruin your entire week!
  • DO buy glamour magazine every month just to read Dawn O’ porters column.
  • DON’T compare yourselves to others, you are a badass.
  • DO snooze your alarm, stay in bed longer and blame TFL for the reason why you’re late.
  • DON’T eat that whole packet of biscuits, you will regret it when you finally make it to the gym.

Hey guys, I thought I would put up a bit of midweek motivation because who doesn’t need to reminded that they are boss every now and again. I get it, day to day life can be so boring and we forget all the things we have accomplished or plan to accomplish.

If there is something you want, go out and get it before someone else does. But don’t go all extreme and do awful stuff and say, “Well Demi Enchanted told me to go after what I want, so that’s why I robbed a bank”. What I mean by this is, be determined. Have in mind what you want. Be it a new job, or a boyfriend that you truly love or going on 8 holidays a year. Time to channel your inner girl boss.

One of my inspirations and also my favourite books is #girl boss by Sophia Amorous. She created an online business called ‘Nasty Gal’ from scratch and now look at her, she is the ultimate girl boss. I could honestly talk about this book all day but I don’t want to spoil it, so go out and get it!

Stop with the excuses “I’ll start on Monday” because everything you want is out there waiting for you, so go get it!

How to be happy at work

This is going to be my first post on happiness! When I mean happy I mean super, super happy in all aspects of life… let the games begin.

This month I will be focusing on work work work work work. This seems fit as we spend most of our lives working away, so let’s start there. There are them lucky little souls that absolutely love their job, jump out of bed and rush to work. Then there are the normal people…  only playing,  but there are others that drag their feet to work and dread every second of it. So for the whole of August I will be focusing on how to be happy in your job or how to get the hell out of there. Whichever one you decide to do, you will feel better and happier for it.

So… how to be happy at work

Step 1- Try to identity the reason why you are unhappy at work. Is it the job role? The people? waking up at 7.00am everyday (I feel you on this one). Write a list of all the reasons you can think of in order to identity the problems.

Step 2– Now that we know all of the issues, we now have something to work with. If the problem is the job role, you might want to discuss this with you manager and see if you can pass this to someone else or you could consider applying for a different role within the company.

  • If you are purely working for money and hate your job completely then just focus on all the money that you are making. If you are enthusiastic and work harder there is always a possibility for a pay rise or to be promoted.
  • If you hate the people, try getting to know your colleagues. You have to work with these people day in day out, there must be something you have in common. If you’ve honestly tried everything and you still can’t stand them try to see if you can be transferred to somewhere else. Remember you always have options.

Step 3– Forget about work and focus on what you love to do outside work. what is your favourite hobby? what makes you extremely happy? Whilst you are in work, think about what you plan to do when you finish. If you focus enough on what you love doing, you could make this your full-time job one day!

I used to hate working, like the whole idea of getting up and having to actually talk to others killed me. I don’t have my dream job yet but as long as I make this my end goal, the jobs I do along the way will be the stepping stones to something greater.

So change your attitude, focus on you and keep pushing for your dream job. We will get there in the end.
