Christmas holiday blues- My trip to Portugal

How depressing is January?! It’s absolutely freezing and as soon as I leave the house I want to turn around and crawl back into bed forever. But, instead of wallowing in self-pity I am going to write a blog post about my amazing Christmas holiday to Portugal.

I am one of those people who will go to the same holiday destination over and over if I love it. I know it sounds boring but nothing beats the feeling of going to another country and it feeling like home.

So when we decided to go to Portugal I was a little upset but also excited to explore another Country (immediately downloads all Portuguese app’s and visualizes lots and lots of Nandos.

The day before we flew I caught the flu, just my luck aye. To be honest, I think everyone caught it, so it was only a matter of time before I did. As you can imagine the flight wasn’t the best since I was sneezing all over the place.

Quick little fun fact: Portugal and England have the same time difference. When my mum told me I didn’t believe her so I had to ask. Turns out Mum’s are always right guys.

Once we landed in Faro-Portugal, we jumped in a cab and went to our hotel. We drove to Albufeira which was about a 30 minute journey. Our hotel was an absolute dream. We stayed at The Cerro Mar Garden apartment’s which had a kitchen and balcony that overlooked the pool and the sea.

The itinerary for this holiday was to relax, chill, sleep, eat, relax and sleep again. I know what you’ve thinking, best holiday ever! The weather was good to us most days. So, let me give you the low down on my typical day in Alburifera.

I would wake up around 9ish, check my phone and have a little pree on Instagram and then go back to sleep. Once I had finally risen from my slumber I would jump in the shower, do all the boring bits then head straight to the kitchen because it’s breakfast timeeeeee. When I am on holiday I am literally the healthiest version of myself. If that is not a sign for me to move abroad I don’t know what is.  Once I had demolished Croissants, fruit and yogurt it’s bikini time. After a couple of hours tanning with a good book, my mum manages to persuade me to go for a walk. We would usually get a little munch on the way (Portuguese MacDonald’s is everything) then we head back to the hotel and go gym, swimming, sauna and steam.

Then it’s finally dinner time. My favourite restaurant had to be this gorgeous, tucked away Italian place, Italian food is my absolute favourite. I live for bruschetta, pizza and pasta and I can honestly say it was the best Italian food I’ve ever had and I’ve been to Italy! Albufeira is a gorgeous little town and I am so happy we visited the time of year that we did. I can imagine it being extremely busy and touristy in the summer. As holidays do, the time literally flew by but it was a perfect place to spend Christmas. We managed to find the local supermarket as this is essential for me as I love buying all things foreign.

Alburifera would be the perfect place to go if you are looking for sun, sea and some quiet time. It is extremely British so if you are looking for culture I wouldn’t suggest going here. The restaurants are catered for British holiday makers along with the places to drink. I can imagine in the summer this small town is heaving with tourists. I would definitely recommend Alburifera and will hopefully end up back here for Christmas again.

Ibiza baby

I must admit I am not a London girl at all. I belong in a hot country, no more than 10 minutes away from the beach. My main life goal is to make this a reality, but for now I am more than happy to jet off at every given possibility. Lucky for me, I have the best sister in the world and she agreed to go to Ibiza with me. Don’t worry Jess,if you are reading this you will be rewarded greatly.

I’ve been to Ibiza so many times that when I arrive it feels like home. There is no better feeling than familiarity when you step foot in another country. I planned the whole trip from start to finish. Our long weekend turned into a whirlwind, with a lot of drink and the mother of all hangovers, but it has been one of my best holidays to date.

Here are a few of the highlights;

  • Elrow at Amnesia- so crazy but so happy we finally went!
  • Ocean beach club … obviously.
  • Pizza hut- best pizza ever.
  • Our hotel- They had given us two rooms because our air con broke.
  • Falling over, apparently this is my thing now.
  • Watching a film in the rave, honestly who comes up with this stuff.

On our last day we planned to have a nice chilled, sophisticated day but things don’t always go to plan.  We were so hungover we spent the whole day hiding from the sun, running toilet to be sick and stuffing our face with burger king.

Ibiza I can’t wait to see you again next year.

I just love going away, nothing beats the feeling of getting off a plane to warm air and sunshine. I am so happy on holiday, I know you are probably think “yeah babe who isn’t” but honestly I am on top form. As soon as I step foot on foreign land the glow up is real. Maybe I’m not British; but a foreign princess taken away from her sunny, palm tree, magical kingdom…one can dream aye.

Anyway enough about me, time to tell you about the best place ever…Marbella. If you’ve never been then jump on a plane and go there now because you’re missing out.  When I say Marbella I mean Puerto Banus because who doesn’t love tanning, shopping and pool parties. To give you the gist of my holiday I ended up prancing around in a bikini all day whilst drinking cocktails, exhibit A below.

There isn’t really much for me to report from this holiday apart from the fact that I sunbathed until the moon came out, quick question can you catch a tan from the moon? I relaxed alottttt! and I am sure at one point I could hear David Attenborough’s voice introducing me to the world as the newest member of the sloth family. Sloth

Last but not least I managed to fit in a cheeky pool party where I drank way too much, danced like a maniac, got videoed by the drone and my sister got thrown in the pool. She said she was taking one for the team so for that I am eternally grateful. To top off the perfect holiday we got the fattest munch and passed out by 9pm, who said relaxing couldn’t be fun.

Happy me, where have you gone?

I feel like I am the most miserable girl on the planet right now. Honestly, I have been walking around with a face like a smacked arse for months. Happy Demi where have you run off to?

Have you ever seen those people that walk around constantly happy about life, smiling from ear to ear just because they are alive. I don’t know whether to punch them in the face or be super jealous that i’m not them. My best friend and I have come to decision that maybe happiness is just not for us.

Some might think that this is a self pity post but it is more me realizing that I am not happy and I need to do something about it. Otherwise I am going to retreat to my room, find the longest series on Netflix and never move again. To be honest, that sounds soooo appealing right now!

mope.0No more moping around, time to jump on the happiness train lol. In an ideal world I would jet off to one of those amazing ‘find yourself retreats’ where you connect with your soul and become at one with life. But those places cost thousands, so i’m going to Marbella instead. I’m sure sunbathing, eating and drinking will assist me on my quest for happiness.

I’ve realized that sometimes it’s OK to be unhappy; its natural especially when life hits you however, what I/we cannot do is wallow. It’s time for change, I want to walk around smiling like a little Cheshire cat. Cheshire_Cat_promotional

First things first, I’m going to go the nearest arts and crafts shop to buy myself a mood board. It’s time to start visualizing all of the things that make me excited. Everything that I love, have and want will be going on this huge creative mood board. I want this to be daily reminder to remind myself exactly what I was working towards.

Secondly, I want to make sure that when I wake up; I am ready for the day ahead. I want to wake up, jump out of bed and sing to the animals like Cinderella (OK, I’ve taken it too far now) but you know what I mean. I want to be ready for the day, how am I meant to conquer the world when it takes me until midday to liven up.

Thirdly, take everything as it comes. Let’s enjoy life because I don’t want to wake up one day realizing I missed half of it.

What’s meant to be, will always find a way

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had this idea in my head about how I want my life to go. In an ideal world I would be waking up to my five bedroom villa in Spain. Having breakfast with my gorgeous husband whilst drinking champagne overlooking the sea. But in reality I wake up every morning freezing, sit on a packed tube and drag myself into work. Real life has no chill however, it is not all doom and gloom little hunnies. It’s taken me a while to realise this but life really does work in mysterious ways. There has been so many situations in my life that would never occurred if I decided to take a different route. Everything is connected and is taking me on this crazy journey.

If you take a step back and think about every job you’ve taken, boy you’ve dated or party you’ve gone to, this is shaping your life and is taking you to your very own happy place.

What I need to keep reminding myself is, I don’t get to have another chance at living life (well this life anyway, for those that believe in reincarnation). I need to do absolutely everything and anything because I don’t want to have any regrets. So my advice to you is; write a list of everything you want to get/achieve and just go for it. Life is so short and we never know when it’s time for our story to end. So really start to enjoy life, work hard and never give up on love.

There are so many different paths that your life can take and ultimately we make the decisions. So instead of focusing on what we want from life and getting disheartened if it doesn’t happen, we should just focus on being happy because what is meant to be will always find it’s way.

Running away for Christmas

no-santaChristmas is cancelled!

Christmas has always been an amazing time of year for me. I’ve always felt such a rush of gratitude, happiness and love. But when you lose someone, everything changes. You become oblivious to Christmas. Santa who? Don’t get me wrong I am by no means the Grinch but the thought of celebrating Christmas without my baby brother is unthinkable. So instead of driving home for Christmas, we ran away for Christmas. Who wants to be in cold, miserable London anyway, get me to the sun.

As we pull up to our five-star, Thalasso spa hotel my jaw drops. We are not in Kansas anymore (sorry if you’ve never seen The wizard of Oz). I was in complete awe and never felt so at home. Well who wouldn’t with a view like that. My days consisted of waking up for breakfast, napping, eating, napping, eating and well, you get the gist of it.

Breakfast was to die for! I must admit, at home I do not eat breakfast. It’s a terrible habit to have but the thought of having to wake up earlier for breakfast is a no go for me. I can barely wake up as it is. Whereas when I am on holiday I can’t stop eating! Is it just me or does all food taste so much better abroad?

So let me give you the lowdown on my glorious breakfast. For starters I would have three glasses of orange juice and fruit that literally melts in your mouth. Then I would move onto two omelette’s fresh tomatoes, cheese, bread and toast. Next it’s time for pancakes, with whipped cream and syrup. Last but certainly not least I would fill up my plate with mini croissants and doughnuts, just in case I had a little room left over. As you can imagine I put myself in the ultimate food coma, I can officially say this happened every single morning without fail.

After breakfast I would walk down to beach, amazingly I could still walk after all that food. The hotel was so beautiful, peaceful and tranquil that I couldn’t help but feel inspired. So every morning I headed to my favourite spot to write, or when no one was looking, sleep.

For the first time in a while I was able to be creative, it all kind of spilled out of me. I wrote down all my ideas, goals and plans for 2017. Being away allowed me to reflect a lot on my life. There are so many awful things in this world and it will affect us all at some point in our lives. It all depends on how we deal with them. For me happiness will always be the ultimate goal. Whether it is making my family & friends happy or myself, this should always come first.

I must admit the rest of my holiday consisted of me sunbathing, drinking wine and going out to fancy dinners. The spa was an absolute dream and I would have lived in the hotel forever if I could. Going forward I want my blog to focus on positivity and happiness. Life can get extremely hard and dull but if I can stay positive and help others do the same, then I will be a happy girl.

Life is better when it’s hot

Every winter I forget how cold it gets in London. I can’t believe its the 7th of December and I feel like i’m in Antarctica. Is being allergic to the cold a thing? It has to be because all I want to do is grab a warm duvet and snuggle into hibernation for the next six months.

As it is currently minus 5 outside (exaggerating just a little) all I can do is plan my next escape to a hot destination. Get me to a place where I can sit around in bikini’s all day and drink cocktails.

So whilst sitting in bed hot chocolate to hand, lets re-visit some happier, hotter times. In order to give myself some inspiration I am going to take you back to one of my favourite holidays … Croatia.

Croatia is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Whoever came up with the idea of hosting Hideout festival on Zrce Beach, I salute you. However, this won’t be your usual blog post of holiday fabulous-ness. This post will include the coach journey from hell, six girls in a two bed apartment and a friend’s foot attacked by a sea urchin. Because where’s the fun in a normal, relaxing holiday?

One of the worst decisions I have ever made in my life was deciding to travel by coach to Croatia. I must admit my decision making is appalling however, this takes the prize. It took us over 26 hours to drive from London to Croatia. We drove through France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and back to Italy because the coach driver was obviously not qualified for the job. Imagine being stuck on a coach for a whole day, no shower, no food, with your evil ex boyfriend sitting four seats ahead of you. Now do you feel my pain?

Finally the coach from hell stopped and we were in Novalja, Croatia … time to party. I can honestly say I did not come prepared. I expected it to be a bit of harmful partying and catching a tan. Let’s just say I underestimated it completely. Day three was like waking up on a desert island. We had 5 hours sleep between us, two of us had to sleep on the floor with towels as duvets. We had no food, no energy and the thought of walking back down to Zcre beach gave us shivers. However, after the best chicken nuggets and chips in the world we were brought back to life, I was practically a new woman. Get me back to the party.

One of my favourite memories has to be day two. It’s seven in the morning, we had been out all night and decided to stay awake. So off we go to the beach, stopping off at the shop quickly to grab a few desperado’s. We jumped straight in the sea and started swimming around like mermaids, or that’s what I like to believe. Out of nowhere I heard a scream, one of my friends was hurt. “My foot my foot” she shouted, as we dragged her out of the water. I can honestly say I have never been so scared in all my life. There were black needles sticking all round her foot. Her foot looked like the guy out of hell raiser. You can imagine after a long night out, no sleep and probably still drunk. I had no idea what was in her foot or how to help.

In my mind this was the end, her foot was going to be amputated. But a nice Croatian man calmed us down and sent us to the local pharmacy. We were then told that this was common and that it should all heal in a couple of weeks, what an anticlimax.

The holiday got a lot more eventful but I am going to stop the blog post here because I don’t want to spill all my stories. Going through pictures and writing down my memories has inspired me to go back to hideout. I have a feeling that next year I will be prepared for the ultimate party island. So if you think you can handle five crazy days in the scorching heat and non-stop partying, then book your ticket right now!
